It’s that wonderful time of year when our favorite Japanese festival, Jimi Halloween, is on full display. Mundane Halloween, as we coined it back in 2018, is when people dress up in costumes so mundane they have to be explained.</p>\n<p>The tradition was started in 2014 by a group of adults at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https://dailyportalz.jp/\">Daily Portal Z</a> who kind of wanted to participate in the festivities of Halloween, but were too embarrassed to go all out in witch or zombie costumes. So instead of the flashy and flamboyant costumes they had been seeing gain popularity in Japan, they decided to dress up in mundane, everyday costumes.</p>\n<p>You can comb through social media using the hashtag #地味ハロウィン but below we present to you some of our favorites from this year’s festivities. We’ve been covering this event since 2018 so you can also take a look at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https://www.spoon-tamago.com/tag/jimi-halloween/\">some past years</a> too!</p>\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person trying to take a group photo in a very small izakaya | @YSSkywalker</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person who is about to ask if it’s okay to push their seat back | @dailyportalz</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person who can’t figure out how to turn on the designer faucet | @dailyportalz</p>\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person trying not to laugh on the train as they watch a funny video | @ai_okubo0617</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person who thought the muddler was a straw | @dailyportalz</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-6.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person who didn’t expect to have to remove their shoes at the business dinner | @zukitomotomo</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>An expert on a very niche subject | @ef510515hokuto3</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-9.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Person who should definitely put some of their stuff in the backpack | @iwanttobeJinrui</p>\n<hr />\n<p><picture class=\"article-picture article-picture-fallback\" style=\"--image-ratio:16 / 9\"><img src=\"https://spoon-tamago.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jimi-halloween-2026-10-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"low\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" class=\"progressive-image\"></picture></p>\n<p>Woman replenishing her dispensers | @08Aikorian</p>\n",
